Putin’s possible invitation to the G7 summit causes divisions in Europe – Ahmad Shahidov spoke to ARB24 Television

Ahead of the G7 leaders’ summit in France, U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized the importance of Russia being represented on this platform as well. Washington’s message has not been welcomed unanimously in European political circles, and serious disagreements have emerged regarding the possible participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the summit, especially against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Speaking to ARB24 Television, political analyst Ahmad Shahidov stated that European leaders do not share a common position regarding Vladimir Putin’s participation in the G7 summit: “Under the current geopolitical circumstances, especially while the war in Ukraine continues, it does not seem realistic for Vladimir Putin to visit France and participate in the G7 summit. Even if Donald Trump supports such an idea, Vladimir Putin is unlikely to attend an event where he is not welcomed.”

Ahmad Shahidov also noted that opportunities for dialogue on international platforms have not completely disappeared: “Vladimir Putin’s participation in the G20 summit scheduled for December 14-15 this year in Miami is already being discussed. This demonstrates that despite ongoing tensions between the West and Russia, certain channels for political dialogue and international engagement are still being preserved.”
