The ongoing diplomatic contacts between the United States and Iran have sparked new geopolitical debates in the Middle East. Washington’s willingness to pursue a possible agreement with Tehran does not align with Israel’s position, highlighting growing differences between the two strategic allies over Iran.
Political analyst Ahmad Shahidov told ARB24 TV that it is no longer politically or economically beneficial for the United States to continue its confrontation with Iran. According to him, Washington seeks to reach a peace agreement with Tehran. Israel, however, believes that if an agreement is reached and sanctions on Iran are lifted, Tehran will strengthen its economy, expand its military capabilities, and increase support for its regional proxy groups. For this reason, Israel favors maintaining pressure on Iran.
Ahmad Shahidov also noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement that Israel may no longer need U.S. financial assistance in the future should primarily be viewed as a political message. In his view, the strategic partnership between the United States and Israel has reached such a level that it would be extremely difficult for Israel to address regional security challenges without Washington’s military, political, and diplomatic support.
