Ahmad Shahidov spoke about rights of journalists at German Embassy

Ahmad Shahidov, Head of the Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (AIDHR) held a meeting at the German Embassy to Azerbaijan on July 2. During his meeting with Frederik Hanke, First Secretary of the German Embassy to Azerbaijan Ahmad Shahidov talked about the organization run by him and further elaborated on existing human rights situation in Azerbaijan and AIDHR’s future plans. Touching upon his official visit to Germany in May, Ahmad Shahidov emphasized his meeting with Mrs. Kersten Steinke, Ombudsman of German Bundestag that took place in the frame of the visit.

In the course of meeting Head of the AIDHR particularly stressed the media freedom issue in Azerbaijan and talked about mass media representatives who encounter (face) pressure and repression. The diplomat also received detailed information with regard to the Farahim Ilgaroglu, “New Musavat” newspaper journalist’s incident who was beaten. Head of the AIDHR noted that the investigation did not arrived at final verdict yet in conjunction with the above mentioned incident and AIDHR issued an official statement in protest to this process.

Closely familiarizing himself with the activities of AIDHR Frederik Hanke, First Secretary of the German Embassy said that the Embassy would have close collaboration with the NGO in the future and he would keep a track on activities pursued by AIDHR.
