“Azerbaijani model of the fight against human trafficking can be an example for Europe” – Ahmad Shahidov made a speech in OSCE

On September 22, the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) of OSCE Participating States, organized by OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) continued its work in Warsaw, Poland. Representatives of OSCE Participating States, OSCE institutions, and OSCE executive structures, representatives of inter-governmental organizations, legal professionals, representatives of civil society and researchers from 57 Participating States took part in discussions.

Taking an active part in discussions on the topic of “Fight against human trafficking”, Head of Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights Dr. Ahmad Shahidov spoke about the experience of Azerbaijan in the fight against human trafficking. Providing information on the events related to the fight against human trafficking, organized in capital city Baku and other regions, human rights defender noted that Azerbaijan has a quite effective legislation in this field.

Spoke about the significant steps have been taken in the field of fight against human trafficking under the National Action Plan, identification and enlightening of victims of human trafficking, social integration and reintegration, head of AIDHR said that US and Azerbaijan are closely cooperating in this field and human trafficking in Azerbaijan reduced to a minimum. In accordance with the priorities identified in Concept of Development “Azerbaijan 2020: Vision to Future”, there is a fruitful cooperation between USA and Azerbaijan in the field of fight against human trafficking, as well as USAID realizes mutual projects with the relevant organizations of Azerbaijan, said Ahmad Shahidov.

Referring to the activities of the General Directorate for Combating Human Trafficking of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, human rights defender said that Azerbaijan is in close cooperation with international organizations in the fight against human trafficking.
