Within the framework of the Spring Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg, France, human rights defender and journalist Ahmad Shahidov conducted an interview with Member of the Ukrainian Parliament and member of Ukraine’s PACE delegation Oleksiy Goncharenko. The discussion covered the military situation in Ukraine, international support for Kyiv, sanctions against Russia, U.S. policy, the Iran factor, and Azerbaijan–Ukraine relations.
Oleksiy Goncharenko stated that the situation in Ukraine remains tense, with ongoing military operations. According to him, there is currently no real progress toward a ceasefire or peace, and Ukraine is primarily fighting to maintain its position.
The Ukrainian MP expressed gratitude to European countries for their support but emphasized that the current level of assistance is not enough to defeat Russia. He stressed that support for Ukraine must continue and that sanctions against Russia should be further intensified.
Speaking about the United States, Honcharenko thanked both previous and current administrations for their support, noting that the overall situation remains uncertain. Addressing the Iran issue, he pointed out that Iranian-made drones have been widely used by Russia in Ukraine and stressed that developments in the Middle East should not divert attention away from Ukraine.
Responding to a question about Azerbaijan, Goncharenko expressed his appreciation to the Azerbaijani people and government for their consistent support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. He noted that Ukraine also supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and welcomed the restoration of its sovereignty over its territories, sending his greetings to the Azerbaijani people.
