U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that several Gulf countries are prepared to invest in the United States in exchange for Washington ensuring the security of international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has brought security issues in the Middle East back to the forefront. Amid rising tensions surrounding Iran, military, political, and economic cooperation between Washington and the Gulf states is entering a new phase.
Political analyst Ahmad Shahidov told ARB24 Television that the war involving Iran has further strengthened relations between the Gulf countries and the United States. According to him, growing security risks in the region are encouraging Gulf states to expand cooperation with Washington, while the United States is emerging as the primary guarantor of regional security.
Ahmad Shahidov noted that security has become the top priority for the Gulf countries under the current circumstances, making their need for the United States even greater. In his view, deeper cooperation in the security sphere will also have a positive impact on economic relations, while increased Gulf investments in the United States will further reinforce the strategic partnership between the two sides.
